Sandiganbayan Found Roderick Paulate Guilty of Graft, Falsification of Public Documents

RODERICK PAULATE – The actor-comedian was found guilty by Sandiganbayan of graft and falsification of public documents.

Some of the known personalities in showbiz have also spend years in public service. One of them is actor-comedian Roderick Paulate.

In the showbiz industry, aside from being an actor-comedian, Roderick is also a television host. He previously hosted Vilma on 7, Magandang Tanghai Bayan, and The Singing Bee among others.

In the Philippine politics, he has served as councilor for several years in Quezon City. However, his term was surrounded by several issues and allegations of corruption.

In 2016, Roderick Paulate was dismissed from his position following an order of the Ombudsman in line with a case filed against him for allegedly hiring “ghost employees” in 2010. In 2019, he was suspended again over the same issue. The actor-comedian dismissed the allegations way back 2012.

Recently, the Sandiganbayan released its decision over the charges against Roderick Paulate. Based on a report on Pep, the anti-graft court found the former Quezon City Councilor guilty of one count of graft and nine counts of falsification of public documents.

Based on the article, the charges is due to the alleged hiring of 30 “ghost employees” from July until November 2010 when he was still councilor of Q.C. The sentence to the actor-comedian is six to eight years in jail for his graft case and six months to six years for every count of falsification of public documents.

Roderick Paulate is now faced with up to 62 years in jail after the Sandiganbayan found him guilty of graft and falsification of documents. Reportedly, he and his driver and liaison officer, Vicente Bajamunde, are also ordered to pay the government P1.1 million which is the amount taken from the Q.C. Treasurer’s Office for payroll to the ghost employees.
