Bantag Criticized BuCor Acting Chief Claiming He Owns Animals Inside Bilibid
Suspended Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Chief Gerald Bantag slammed the acting chief for allegedly claiming that he owns animals inside New Bilibid Prison.
Bantag vehemently refuted claims that he is the owner of the roosters and gloves used to treat the excrement discovered in the NBP’s agricultural sector. Bantag was also questioned on the facility’s tunnel that was found.
On the other hand, Bantag made it clear that the tunnel was for a swimming pool. He claimed that he had intended to construct a deep swimming area because he enjoys diving and is a scuba diver.
Some images posted on social media show what appear to be Bantag’s dogs inside Bilibid. The detainees at Bilibid are reportedly responsible for caring for more than a dozen horses, hens, and a python, according to acting BuCor chief Gregorio Catapang. Bantag should not bring his animals into Bilibid so that the prisoners can care for them, insisted Catapang.
“Unang-una hindi naman pag-aari ng BuCor ‘yan. Bakit inilagay dito? Pangalawa dahil inilagay dito, may nag-aalaga diyan. So gumagastos ang gobyerno sa mga hayop na hindi pag-aari ng BuCor. So tinitignan din ‘yung kaso na pwedeng i-file sa mga taong ito,” said Catapang.
Although Bantag acknowledged that he did own horses within Bilibid, not all of the animals inside are his. Some of the horses, he said, belonged to his guys. It is also claimed that the said horses were a gift to him.
“Oo naman, meron [kabayo]. At hindi lang sa akin ‘yon. Sa mga tauhan ko, lahat kami sama-sama doon, mga local horses ‘yon. Regalo sa akin ‘yun nung birthday ko, two years ago yata,” said Bantag.
Bantag disputed with Catapang’s assertion that the government was paying for his horses’ food. The horse solely consumes grass, which is plentiful in Bilibid, according to Bantag.
‘Di ko na kontrolado ‘yung mga ganun. Put6ng ina nila! Put6ng inang Catapang! Ano naman ang gagawin ng, may mga informal settlers doon. Kung baga ‘di ko nakikita. Pati ba naman yun? Akin lahat yun?” Bantag stressed.
“Eh ang luwag-luwag niyan 300 hectares. Kung meron nagtatago doon at nag-aano ng manok, ano ang alam ko doon? Di naman ako nagsasabong. Sisirain talaga nila credibility ko. Ganyang sila kasalbahe,” Bantag added, based on the artcard shared by News 5.
