Atom Araullo Slams Post That Called His Mother “NPA”

This is how Atom Araullo handled the libelous claims of this netizen.

ATOM ARAULLO – Kapuso broadcaster Atom Araullo called out this netizen online who spread lies about his mother.

Red-tagging in the Philippines has become rampant. This is the term used to call the process of “blacklisting of individuals or organizations critical or not fully supportive of the actions of a sitting government administration in the country”. It became more acute when former President Rodrigo Duterte sat as president.

And just recently, Atom Araullo called out someone online who boldly claimed that his mother is a member of the communist-led armed rebel group New People’s Army or NPA.

On a rare chance, the Kapuso actor called out this netizen spreading fake stories about his mother. He doesn’t usually do this but involving his mother seemingly crossed the line.

“I don’t usually call out private individuals here, but behavior like this should not be normalized. Disinformation is a huge problem globally, one that can have deadly consequences,” he said and shared some screenshots of the post which he indicated as examples of such cases.

He then added, “These are lies, probably fed to you by some of the influencers you follow. Kailan pa naging katanggap-tanggap yung ganito?”

Carol Pagaduan Araullo is Atom’s mother. Atom is the only son of Carol and Miguel. Atom’s mother is a graduate of the UP College of Medicine. She is an activist and is involved in many cause-oriented groups.

She is Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan or New Patriotic Alliance) chairperson, global vice chair of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS), and co-convenor of the Gloria Stepdown Movement (GSM) and the Movement of Concerned Citizens for Civil liberties (MCCCL).

Atom himself is also an activist and he was back when he was in college.
