Faced with intense backlash, Fabregas revealed on Twitter that he had deactivated his account from a well-known e-commerce platform. The actor made the decision after Shopee Philippines allegedly fired some of its employees.
He drew attention to firing staff members despite the corporation having funds set aside to find a new celebrity brand ambassador. Toni Gonzaga is now a Shopee endorser, the online shopping platform recently revealed.
“I have deleted my Shopee account. Matagal ko nang gustong gawin dahil sa gastos pero ngayon nagkaroon ng mas malalim na dahilan,” the actor said on his official Twitter account, Wednesday night.
Recall that Shopee Philippines told the Inquirer they would be laying off a single-digit percentage of their workforce. According to Shopee, these adjustments are a part of their ongoing efforts to maximize operating effectiveness with the aim of reaching self-sufficiency throughout their entire organization.
After Toni’s endorsement was revealed, some internet users called for a boycott of the business. Following the release of the abovementioned teaser, the hashtags #BoycottShopee and #ByeShopee also became popular online recently.
