Michele Gumabao React To Miss Universe New Rules
MICHELE GUMABAO – Miss Universe Philippines 2020 2nd runner-up Michele Gumabao was asked what she thought about Miss Universe new rules.
The Miss Universe is one of the most prestigious pageants across the. Recently, the MU organizers announced the venue of its 71st edition.
The competition will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 14, 2023. Miss Universe Philippines Celeste Cortesi will represent the Philippines.
The president of the Miss Universe organization, Paula Shugart, has confirmed that the pageant will now allow mothers and wives to participate in the competition.
In its more than 70-year history, the MUO has only allowed single women, aged between 18 and 28, who “must not have ever been married, not had a marriage annulled, nor given birth to, or parented a child” to compete. The 71st edition of the prestigious pageant will no longer be limited to single women but candidates should still be between ages 18 to 28.

Based on a report from Philstar, MUP 2020 2nd runner-up and volleyball star Michele Gumabao said she’s surprised with the decision of MUO to allow mothers and wives to join the competition. She said she supports the decision of the organization.
“Nakakagulat din talaga ‘yung decision ng Miss Universe to announce these changes but I’m sure it took a long deliberation for them to make this stand…”
“I’m all for being inclusive and so support lang din talaga, we all enjoy watching Miss Universe and that won’t change just because of this new rule,” she added.
In a previous article, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray said she also supports MUO’s new rules. “I think it’s really timely to allow women in whatever capacity to go after the dream of being a Miss Universe,” she said.
