Young Boxer Passed Away After Suffering Head Injury During Training at Gym
MAKATI CITY – A young boxer suddenly collapsed and passed away during his training at a gym in Makati City.
The 18-year-old boxer identified as Axiel Van Dignos suddenly collapsed while having a sparring session at a gym in Makati City. The youngster has already won several medals as a professional boxer in the flyweight division.
Dignos has been rushed to the hospital and got comatose for a couple of days before he passed away last weekend. The family grieves due to the unexpected death of the young boxer.
“Ngayon lang ako nakaramdam ng ganito kasakit. Grabe, hindi ko mawari, ang sakit talaga,” the boxer’s dad Charlito “Boy” Dignos said.
Mang Charlito described his son as an energetic athlete during that training. Unfortunately, Axiel gets exhausted during the second round of his sparring session and told his dad about his condition.
“Maganda naman ‘yung galaw niya, ‘yung suntok niya malakas. Pagkatapos ng two rounds, nagsabi siya sa akin ‘Pa pagod ako, pagod na ako.’ First time niyang nagsabi sa akin ng gano’n sa sparring,” Mang Charlito said.
Makati hospital explained that the victim suffered uncal herniation secondary to severe traumatic brain injury, which leads to his untimely death. Axiel suffered a head injury due to repeated blows resulting in intracranial bleeding, according to Chief Surgical Resident Dr. Joseph Noel De Chavez.
The family has also expressed their disappointment after a scammer stole the donations they have received, which were supposed to be used for Axiel’s medical treatment.
