Argentine Boxer Hugo Santillan Dies After Fight

ARGENTINE BOXER – another boxer named Hugo Santillan died after suffering a head injury during his fight following the death of Russian Maxim Dadashev.

The Argentine fighter Hugo Santillan fought Uruguayan boxer Eduardo Abreu in San Nicolas, Buenos Aires for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Latino Silver lightweight title.

The 23-year-old boxer suddenly collapsed during the announcement of his 10-round fight result because of a head injury. He was rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention.

The hospital sources said that Santillan underwent an operation to relieve the pressure because of swelling on his brain caused by head trauma.

Santillan died of a heart attack although nothing appeared wrong during his fight with Abreu until he lost his consciousness and suddenly collapsed.

“We join Hugo’s family and friends in grief,” World Boxing Council said.

The late boxer has a record of 19 wins (eight knockouts, two by stoppage, and two draws) and six defeats.

The Argentinian is the second boxer who died after the Russan boxer Maxim Dadashev also passed away due to brain injury after fighting the Puerto Rican athlete Subriel Matias in Maryland.
