DOH Speaks on Mandatory Face Mask in PH

DOH – The Department of Health revealed its decision on the face mask rule in the Philippines amid the pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic is not yet over. According to World Health Organization (WHO), the pandemic is nowhere near over and it has not come to an end anywhere if it is not over everywhere. It has greatly affected several countries across the globe and continues to spread.

In the Philippines, cases of new sub-variants of the COVID-19 virus were detected. The national government and the health authorities continue to remind the Filipinos to remain extra careful.

The entire Philippines remains under some restrictions depending on the COVID status per area. Most parts of the country including Metro Manila are currently under Alert Level 1, the loosest measure.

However, recently, COVID cases in the Philippines are increasing once again. There were even several known personalities most especially in politics who contracted the said disease.

The individuals who will test positive for COVID-19, even if they are vaccinated, should be in isolation for at least seven (7) days. Also, the mandatory face mask rule remains in the Philippines. The Department of Health (DOH) recently spoke on the said protocol.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, DOH OIC Dr. Maria Rosario Vergeire said that it is “not the proper time yet” to lift the mandatory face mask policy in the country. She stressed that severe and critical cases of COVID-19 continue to rise.

Dr. Vergeire also cited that records of the individuals who got their booster shots remains low. According to her, the admission of fully-vaccinated individuals may also prompt the waning immunity of the vaccines. The health department plans to have a special week for vaccination this month.
