‘Happier than Ever’ Billie Eilish Tour in Manila
Billie Eilish requested her Filipino fans to just enjoy the night during her “Happier than Ever” concert tour in Manila last August 13 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Paranaque.
Billie Eilish eventually appeared on the “other side of the world” the SM Mall of Asia Arena, to be precise to rumbling beats, throbbing white lights, and the packed audience’s thunderous roars two years after the pandemic-related cancellation of what should’ve been her maiden gig in Manila.
“It’s crazy to be on the other side of the world … and you’re here!” Billie said on her Manila stop of her “Happier than Ever” tour.
Based on the report of Inquirer.Net that the singer-songwriter only asked that everyone “have fun” and wanted to see people “jumping, dancing, screaming” and just having a good time.
“Don’t worry about anything else,” she added.
The fans’ biggest concern was how they would be able to keep up with the pop star‘s unbridled enthusiasm as she blasted through her set of more than 20 songs.
She knelt and spun around in the hip-hop and electropop song “Therefore I Am”; she pranced across the stage, her pigtail buns bobbing as she banged her head to the snarling “I Didn’t Change My Number”; she rolled on the stage in the sultry, cabaret-esque “Strange Addiction,” the lights bathing her in a red haze. Her characteristic pose—an spectacular backbend in which her hands nearly touched the floor—was punctuated by her jumping up and down while clapping her hands aloft in “Bury a Friend.”
However, even though Billie is only 20 years old, she already possesses a good sense of showmanship. She controlled the stage with spontaneity since she had no choreography to follow. Her body moved in response to every beat, distortion, tingling, and rattling of her music. She was adept at motivating the crowd and, when necessary, keeping them quiet.
On the other hand, her sophomore album, “Happier than Ever,” delivers a more traditional sound with electronic midtempos with jazz influences and beautiful ballads. Additionally, the two albums’ overlap in this performance offered a stylistic balance.
The report mentioned that, there was room for more subdued moments that highlighted Billie’s vocals, such as in the sensual “Billie Bossa Nova,” which featured her sashaying on stage with a pride flag draped over her shoulder. The audience did get their fix of thumping and visually delirious productions, but there was also room for these moments.
She claimed that being around her admirers always makes her feel cherished. She exclaimed, “I admire you and I appreciate you. You mean the world to me.”
