RAMON MUZONES – National Artist of the Philippines for Literature is Ramon Muzones and here are some things about him.
A Hiligaynon poet, essayist, short story writer, critic, grammarian, editor, lexicographer, and novelist was Ramzon Muzones. He was born in Iloilo City on March 20, 1913, the oldest of Santiago Muzones and Florentina Larupay. He was among the writers who popularized Hiligaynon literature.
He went to Central Philippine University and he finished his law degree there and had his pre-law at the Far Eastern University. He was married to Adelaida de la Cruz from Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, and they’ve had seven children.
His first writing was “The Ten Bornean Datus” which was published when he was just 19 years old.
Through writing, he was able to send himself and his siblings to school. He wrote poems, essays, and short stories but he was most notable for writing novels.

- Dama de Noche (1982-84)
With his long career in writing that spanned 50 years, he was also considered one of the three kings in Hiligaynon novels. His writings reflected the history of the Hiligaynon novel – from its rise to its downfall. He was an Outstanding Awardee of the Writers’ Union of the Philippines and received its Literary Achievement Award in 1958.

- Ang Gugma sang Gugma Bayaran (Love with Love Be Paid, 1955)

In three decades, he was able to make over 60 novels. He founded an organization for Hiligaynon writers and it is called Sumakwela.
Apart from his writing career, he was a lawyer by profession. He was also elected to public office as City Councilor of Iloilo City from the year 1963 to 1971.
