A motorcycle passenger almost lost his life after he and his rider were struck by a dangling electric cable while traveling along a busy road in Manila.
Recently, Dino Balasbas, a Facebook user, shared his frightening experience online after he and a motorcycle taxi rider were suddenly hit by a hanging cable while riding along United Nations Avenue.
The post quickly went viral and drew many reactions from netizens who were shocked by the dangerous situation.
According to Dino, the incident happened while he was on his way home from work. Earlier that day, he had just received good news about a promotion at his job, and he was feeling happy as he booked a ride through a motorcycle taxi service.
While they were traveling along the road, both he and the rider were suddenly surprised when a cable hanging across the street struck their helmets and hit their necks. The impact caused them to stop a few meters away from the spot as they both tried to understand what had just happened.
Dino later believed that the cable might have been part of the overhead utility wires that were loosely hanging along the road. He and the rider both suffered minor scratches on their necks, but they were fortunate that the injuries were not serious.
Balasbas realized that the situation could have been far worse. If their helmet visors had been open, the cable might have struck their eyes or faces. It could also have wrapped around their necks or caused them to fall off the motorcycle while moving.
There was also a possibility that the cable could have been live, which might have led to electrocution. The experience left him grateful to be alive.
The passenger shared his story online to warn others, especially those who frequently ride motorcycles, to stay alert on the road and to always wear proper safety gear. He also hopes that local authorities will address the problem of tangled and dangling wires along city streets to prevent similar accidents in the future.
