Arnell Ignacio is the new OWWA Administrator
President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr. appointed actor-host Arnell Ignacio as the new Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator and here’s his reaction to this.
Previously, Ignacio served as the deputy administrator of the said agency. During the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte, Ignacio also served as the AVP for the community relations and services department at the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.
In a statement posted on People’s Television Network’s social media platforms, Press Secretary Atty. Trixie Cruz-Angeles confirmed this appointment by the President. It was said that Arnell Ignacio worked under OWWA as a deputy administrator in 2018 for one year before he left for personal reasons, Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Susan Ople said.
Ignacio was reappointed to the same position last year. Current OWWA head Hans Leo J. Cacdac will be serving as Undersecretary of DMW on Welfare and Foreign Employment. The Press Secretary also said that Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Administrator Bernard Olalia will take the position of Undersecretary of Licensing and Adjudication. Olalia will be the OIC of POEA until the department will be fully constituted on the approval of the 2023 budget.
Sec. Angeles added that Venecio Legaspi, a former overseas Filipino worker for 29 years will be the vice president of the prominent Saudi Bank as he was appointed as the Asec for Reintegration.
In a Facebook post, Arnell Ignacio shared a news article about his appointment. He said that he did not expect this appointment by President Marcos. On the other hand, he is thankful for the trust that was given to him.
“Reading the news… buffering ako halos hindi ako makapaniwala. Maraming salamat sa tiwala mr PBBM at aa aking mga kasama sa OWWA amd all the stakeholders,” the actor-host wrote. Several social media followers of Ignacio congratulated him and wished him well for his new government position.
