Vince Tañada has another “banat” to Darryl Yap
Katips director Vince Tañada reacted to the controversial Cory Mahjong Scene in the movie Maid In Malacañang by director-writer Darryl Yap.
Direk Vince has been vocal about his criticisms against the movie about the last 72 hours of the Marcos family in Malacañang. He even admitted that he intended to release his movie on the same release date that MiM scheduled.
In an interview, based on the article in Manila Bulletin, the Katips director also shared his reaction to the scene depicting former President Cory Aquino playing mahjong with nuns. He is one of those people who condemned the said controversial scene that featured actress Giselle Sanchez.
“Sana hindi na nilagay ni Darryl Yap. Dahil yun ang sa palagay kong walang dahilan,” Direk Vince Tañada said. He added that as an artist, it is painful for him that the mahjong scene was added with “poetic justice or artistic license” as the reason.
Direk Vince stressed that artists have responsibilities also. “Hindi naman po basta bira lang ng bira,” he said. The Katips director also shared that he really watched MiM with the intention that he might be enlightened by what Direk Darryl has been trying to say.
“Siyempre pinanuod ko po ng mahusay at sabi ko nga sa sarili ko ‘Nobody can ever invalidate the personal experiences of the Marcoses.’ Kasi kung yun yung naramdaman nila nung 72 hours bago sila umalis, bakit ko naman (ku-question-in?),” Direk VinceTañada explained.
To recall, the said Cory Mahjong Scene in MiM garnered criticism from the Carmelite Sisters in Cebu. That was where former President Cory Aquino stayed during the EDSA Revolution. On the other hand, Direk Darryl Yap stressed that he did not specifically point out in the movie that he was referring to the Carmelite Sisters. The director also said that he has documents to support that scene.
