Robin Padilla received criticism from Audie Gemora
Senator Robin Padilla shared a post that answered the singer Audie Gemora’s criticism of his admission that he is having a hard time during plenary debates because his colleagues would often use the English language.
When Padilla announced that he was running for senator, one of the immediate negative reactions that he received was his ability to speak English. He said in previous interviews that he would use the Filipino language and he is not ashamed of it.
Just recently, reports circulated that the neophyte lawmaker admitted that it was difficult for him to follow plenary debates because other senators would always use the English language. Audie shared a news clip about this on his Twitter account.
The singer criticized the actor-turned-lawmaker. “You put a kinder-gardener in graduate school and expect the class to adjust?” Audie wrote in the caption of his post. On Sunday, Sen. Robin Padilla shared a post that answered Audie’s tirade.
The post that Padilla shared was from MJ Quiambao Reyes, co-founder of the non-profit, non-governmental organization The Little Swallow, based on the article in Manila Bulletin. In the post, Reyes said, “Una, bago po kayo mang insulto, siguruhin n’yo po muna na tama ang spelling nyo ng KINDERGARTNER para di ka naman nakakahiya.”
The NGO head also said that intelligence is not measured by the ability of a person to speak English fluently. Reyes stressed that loving one’s own language does not reflect ignorance. He also said that Padilla is pushing for the use of the Filipino language in the Senate so that more Filipinos would understand the issues being discussed.
Reyes also shared that former President Rodrigo Duterte told him that Robin Padilla is indeed “mahusay” and that he really can express himself in English but he is just choosing to speak in Filipino. When the Senator shared this post of Reyes, he wrote this in the caption: “Mabuhay mga kapanalig sa adhikaing makabayan at makaPilipino.”
