Will there be reconciliation between Darryl Yap and the Quezon City government?
Maid in Malacanang writer-director Darryl Yap reportedly will have a meeting with Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte months after the persona non grata issue.
During the election season, Direk Darryl supported the Mike Defensor, the mayoralty candidate of Uniteam in Quezon City and the opponent of Mayor Joy. Darryl and his team, people behind Vincentiments, created a political satire featuring Comedy Concert Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas who played the character Ligaya Delmonte.
The said satire video garnered various reactions online. It was criticized by the supporters of Mayor Joy. Her ally, defeated councilor Ivy Lagman pushed for a resolution to declare Darryl Yap and Ai-Ai delas Alas as persona non grata in the entertainment capital of the Philippines, and the Quezon City Council agreed with her. Lagman stressed in an interview that Mayor Joy has nothing to do with the resolution that she pushed.
The comedienne and the director were nonchalant about this issue. Ai-Ai is still staying in her home in QC and goes to the GMA studio which is also part of the city. Direk Darryl even shared a post finding a house for rent in QC.
In a recent article published on PEP’s website, it was said that the controversial director will have a meeting with the Quezon City Mayor. The said meeting reportedly will happen on Tuesday, July 26 at the office of the Mayor.
The article also stated that the premiere night of Maid in Malacanang will be held at the cinemas of SM The Block in Quezon City on July 29. For sure, Direk Darryl Yap will be there in the city wherein he was declared persona non grata.
Based on the article, the meeting that will happen between the director and the Mayor will have something to do with the said premiere night event of the movie about the last 72 hours of the Marcoses in the Palace.
