Pulupandan Negros Occidental Mayor Steps Down from Office

PULUPANDAN NEGROS OCCIDENTAL MAYOR – Former Mayor Lorenzo Eduardo Mario Antonio Suatengco resigned from his post.

Both local and national elections were held last May 9. Millions of Filipinos were out to vote for the candidates they wanted to support in their candidacies. It was an automated election that utilized the Smartmatic machines for speedy canvassing.

A few hours after most of the election precincts closed, the final results for the local elections were already available. With regards to the national elections, the canvassing of the results also started right away but it took a few days before the proclamation of the winners.

In Negros Occidental, then mayoralty candidate Lorenzo Eduardo Mario Antonio Suatengco won the race in Pulupandan. His cousin, Miguel Antonio Peña, won the vice mayoralty race.

Another family member of Suatengco, Anthony Gerard Suatengco, also won as councilor in the May 2022 Elections. However, the Pulupandan Negros Occidental Mayor decided to resign from his post three (3) weeks after he assumed office.

Based on a report on Philippine News Agency, former Mayor Lorenzo Eduardo Mario Antonio Suatengco submitted a resignation letter to the office of Negros Occidental Gov. Bong Lacson. He cited health reasons as the cause behind his decision to step down from his position.

The former Pulupandan Negros Occidental Mayor did not specify his health condition. Gov. Lacson immediately accepted Suatengco’s resignation and the new mayor and vice mayor took their oath.

Mayor Miguel Antonio Peña took his oath as the new mayor of Pulupandan before Gov. Lacson. The No.1 councilor, Anthony Gerard Suatengco, also took his oath as the new vice mayor of the town. The oath-taking was held at the Governor’s Office of the Provincial Capitol. Peña has served three (3) terms as mayor and this succession marks his return to the mayoralty post.
