Nurses Group Urges BBM Admin to Raise Entry Salary to P50k/Month

The Nurses group in the country is urging the new administration under President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to raise the entry salary to P50,000/month.

On Friday (July 1, 2022), the Filipino Nurses United group is urging the Marcos administration to raise the entry salary of nurses to P50,000 a month. The proposal aims to benefit nurses in both public and private hospitals.

“Top most po doon sa 10 na laman ng agenda ay itaas ang sahod ng nurses sa mga pampubliko at pampribado … gawin po itong P50,000 a month. ‘Yan po yung entry salary,” FNU president Maristela Abenojar said.

Abenojar said that the proposal aims to help nurses working in the health sector cope with inflation. He also cited the living wage set by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).

The FNU official reported the nurses in private hospitals usually earn P8,000 to P10,000 monthly while public nurses receive P35,000 monthly under Salary Grade 15. However, most nurses in public hospitals were contractual workers.

The nurse group head explained that the country’s healthcare system may collapse because most Filipino nurses want to fly for employment abroad to provide for the necessities of their families.

The group also praised the remark of Marcos on improving public health during his inauguration speech.

Abenojar reported that about 71% of healthcare workers have yet to receive their One COVID Allowance. The benefits for healthcare workers, which were supposed to be distributed in January 2022 were only released last week.
