Nurse Group Calls for Incoming Admin To Focus on Salary Problem

Nurse Group Says More Pinoy Nurses Apply for Work Abroad

NURSE GROUP – The Philippine Nurses Association is calling for the incoming administration to focus on nurses’ salary problem.

Undeniably, a lot of Filipinos work abroad because of a promising compensation that could help them give their families and loved ones a comfortable life and a brighter future. They brave the longing to be with their loved ones as well as the risks of being away from their families. Truth be told that they endure a lot including the many celebrations that they will miss because of their work abroad.

Filipinos who are medical professionals like nurses are among those who aspire to work abroad because of the differences between the compensations in the country and in other nations. Based on a report on ABS-CBN, while nurses abroad earn huge amounts most especially when converted to Philippine Peso, nurses working in private hospitals in the country usually earn only P15,000 per month.

Based on the report, the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) said that more and more nurses are applying for a job abroad. The nurse group expressed that several nurses either applied for a leave of absence at work to process their documents for an application abroad while others resigned from work.

The nurse group is calling for the incoming administration to focus on the problem of nurses’ salaries in the country. Amid the pandemic, the government had to implement an employment cap to make sure that the country will not run out of medical staff. Several countries abroad are hiring medical professionals and they offer excellent compensation and benefits for those who will be hired.

PNA wants to personally talk to the incoming labor secretary to talk about the problem regarding the salaries of nurses in the Philippines. Reportedly, there were bills seeking to put the salaries of private hospital nurses under Salary Grade 15 (P30,000) like the wages of nurses in the government hospitals. More updates may be posted soon.
