Sen. Leila de Lima Asks 2 Courts for Medical Furlough to Undergo Surgery
LEILA DE LIMA – The detained Senator requested medical furlough to two courts as she needs to undergo major surgery.
Sen. de Lima is detained at the Custodial Center of the Philippine National Police (PNP) for more than five (5) years now due to drug allegations. It was in 2016 when several people claimed that they have drug operations under the knowledge of the then Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary.
However, recently, several people who pinned down the lady Senator recanted their previous testimonies against her. They claimed that they were just forced to make the said claims vindicating the outgoing Senator.
Sen. Leila de Lima, the principal sponsor and author of 4Ps, ran for another term in the Senate during the Elections 2022. However, she lost the senatorial race.
Recently, the camp of Sen. Leila de Lima requested medical furlough from the two (2) courts handling the drug-related cases filed against her. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the detained Senator needs to undergo major surgery.
De Lima’s spokesperson, Attorney Filibon Tacardon, said that a part of the uterus of the Senator has to be removed as it already become a “concern”. The camp of the Senator asked for her medical leave from June 19 to June 25 for the surgery.
Based on the report, the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court Branch 204 granted the petition while Branch 256 has yet to issue its response to the request. If granted by the two (2) courts, the Senator is set to spend five (5) days at the Manila Doctors Hospital. The 5-day medical leave requested is already inclusive of the required COVID-19 RT-PCR tests and post-operation observation.
