The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is the one sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) and hours before the closing of the precincts, they announced the canvassing of votes is being suspended.

According to a report from Manila Bulletin, this is due to a lack of votes to canvass. Comelec Commissioner Aimee P. Ferolino, the declaration of suspension is because VCMs are not transmitting yet and they see no point in waiting. The voting venues will close down at 7 in the evening indicating the end of the voting.

The canvassing of votes for senators and party list will resume tomorrow, May 10, at 1 PM.

Meanwhile, Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said previously that senators may be proclaimed around May 15 to 16, and winners of local positions may be declared as early as the evening of the election day on May 9 up to May 10.

For this year’s polls. there’s a total of 18,100 national and local posts up for grabs. There were several reports about VCM malfunctioning. And to those who haven’t voted yet when 7 PM is reached, people within 30 meters from the polling place are still allowed to cast their votes.
