No Power Supply Problems on Election Day, DOE Says

The Department of Energy (DOE) assured the public that there will be no power supply problems on Election Day 2022.

On Saturday (May 7, 2022), the Energy Department announced that there will be no potential or possible power interruption during the 2022 national elections on Monday (May 9), which is considered a critical period.

DOE-Electric Power Industry Management Bureau Director Mario Marasigan reported that the agency is monitoring the stability of the electricity in the country since May 2. No problem has been detected during the monitoring.

DOE is also working together with the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP), distribution utilities, and power generation companies to monitor the power situation in the country, according to Marasigan.

“So far wala tayong nakikitang mga problema o potensyal na problema pagdating sa serbisyo ng kuryente lalong na sa eleksyon,” Marasigan said.

DOE’s Energy Task Force on Election sought help from the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and Philippine Coast Guard to secure power facilities considered as potential danger zones during the election period.
