Manny Pacquiao on Press Con: “Wala sa usapan iyong manira tayo ng tao…”

Sen. Manny Pacquiao Speaks on Press Con Held by Fellow Presidential Bets

MANNY PACQUIAO – The PROMDI standard-bearer spoke on the press con held at the Manila Peninsula Hotel on Easter Sunday.

The press conference held by three (3) presidential candidates at the Manila Peninsula Hotel on Easter Sunday surprised a lot of people. Presidential bets Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, former defense secretary Norberto Gonzales, and Senator Ping Lacson appeared before the press.

However, the said press con drew flak after Mayor Isko called for the withdrawal of Vice President Leni Robredo from the presidential race. The Vice President is in the 2nd spot in the latest Pulse Asia survey with all of them trailing behind her digits as she challenges the possible victory of former Sen. Bongbong Marcos Jr.

According to Mayor Isko, what Vice Pres. Robredo is allegedly doing is not effective against the frontrunner and she must give other presidential bets the chance. He called for the Vice President to do the “supreme sacrifice” and “be a hero” by withdrawing from her presidential bid.

Vice Pres. Robredo did not fire back on the statements of Mayor Moreno. She expressed her gratitude to everyone who defended her but requested her supporters to focus on the campaign and not to let their emotions win them over.

PROMDI-standard bearer and incumbent Sen. Manny Pacquiao was set to attend the said press con but he did not arrive before it was over. His camp took it as “Divine Intervention” that he was not physically present at the event.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the unintentional no show of Sen. Pacquiao at the event was due to a delay in his flight from General Santos City. According to him, he would have not accepted the invitation if he knew it would put someone in a bad light.

Sen. Manny Pacquiao disagreed with the withdrawal call to Vice Pres. Leni Robredo made at the press con. According to him, their goal for the event was to call for unity and to emphasize that they are not withdrawing from the presidential race.

“Wala sa usapan iyong manira tayo ng tao at saka magsasabing mag-withdraw ka,” the Senator said.

After the press con, Sen. Lacson also clarified that he’s not part of the withdrawal call to Vice Pres. Robredo. For his part, Gonzales admitted that he was “uncomfortable” at the press con and he apologized to the Vice President for what happened.
