DYUGDYUGAN BY LUALHATI BAUTISTA – This is the poem “Dyugdyugan” written by a famous writer and novelist Lualhati Bautista.
Lualhati Torres Bautista is a Filipina writer, novelist, activist, and political critic. Her most popular novel is called Bata Bata Paano Ka Ginawa while her other famous novels include Dekada 70 and GAPO. She was born on December 2, 1945, in Tondo, Manila. She graduated in 1958 from Emilio Jacinto Elementary School. For her secondary, she attended Torres High School and she’s among the smartest.
She was a journalism student at the Lyceum of the Philippines but she dropped out later on because what she accordingly really wanted is to write. Her schooling seemed to have hindered her to do what she really wants and so she dropped out. Katugon ng Damdamin is her first short story and was published in Liwayway Magazine. This is where her career in writing started.

- Palanca Awards 1980 grand prize winner for her GAPO
- Filipino Readers’ Choice Award Nominee for Fiction in Filipino/Taglish in 2014 for her Sisterhood
- Palanca Awards first prize, 1982, for her Tatlong Kwento ng Buhay ni Juan Candelabra
- Palanca Awards third prize, 1983, Buwan, Buwan, Hulugan mo Ako ng Sundang
- Ateneo Library of Women’s Writings recognition during the 8th Annual Lecture on Vernacular Literature by Women
- Outstanding achievement in screenplay writing recognition from the Feminist Centennial Film Festival

DYUGDYUGAN

Bago ka lumapit, gusto kong malaman mo
Na sa loob ng maluwang na blusa ko
Diretsahan ito, wala akong suso.
Ang sagot niya, wala raw ‘yong kaso.
Na-wi-wish ko rin
Na sana’y pareho kami ni Carmi Martin
Huwag kang tanga, sagot niya
Pag ganon kalaki, mahirap ding dalhin.
Siguro’y alam mo ring nagdaan na ‘ko sa iba
Sa kamang ganito, meron nang nakasama.
Ang sagot niya, basta mahal kita.
Ang tiyan ko’y marami nang bakat
Ng nagdaang panganganak.
Sabi niya, hulog daw iyon ng langit
Bunga lang ng mga matamis na pakikipagtalik.
Pagkatapos ng romansa at magaling na bukadura*
Nag-asawa siya ng iba.
