Pres. Duterte’s remark about the uncollected estate tax and here are the takes of Sara Duterte and Isko Moreno about this.
SARA DUTERTE – Vice presidential candidate Sara Duterte-Carpio Isko Moreno’s statement about Pres. Duterte’s remark.
Previously, President Rodrigo Duterte called out the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) as to why it has not collected a certain estate tax due. He did not specifically mention someone in his remark but it gave people an idea.
During his weekly televised public address aired Tuesday night, he said that the government can only prod and there’s no need for a reminder from Malacañang for the BIR to do what it has to do. It has been publicly declared that the Department of Finance (DOF) has been pushing the BIR to collect the unpaid estate taxes from the heirs of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
The amount from ₱23 billion in 1997 grow to around ₱203 billion at present. Such a huge amount can go a long way, especially now that the prices of oils and other basic goods continue to rise. Aksyon Demokratiko also previously said that the Marcos family must pay their tax liabilities.
BBM is presidential daughter Sara Duterte’s running mate and the vice-presidential aspirant refused to give a comment about her father’s remark. She said, “I cannot pretend to know what the President is thinking at any given time.”
And according to a report from ABS-CBN, presidential bet Isko Moreno Domagoso thanked the president for bringing that matter up and for calling out the BIR. He is currently in Iligan City.
Meanwhile, the remark of the president is accordingly just a reminder for the agency to do its job. And to recall, he once called BBM a “weak leader” and a “spoiled child”.
