Rowena Guanzon Speaks on Smartmatic Machines’ Accuracy

Ex-Comelec Commission Rowena Guanzon Confident on Smartmatic Machines

ROWENA GUANZON – The former commissioner of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) spoke on the accuracy of the Smartmatic machines.

In less than two (2) months, the Filipino people are set to once again cast their votes for the local and national elections. There will be polls for the next president, vice president, and senators who will govern the country. According to the Commission on Elections (Comelec), there are 10 presidential candidates in the upcoming poll.

The Comelec is currently in the process of checking the printed ballots to separate the damaged ones from the ones that are considered “good ballots”. The upcoming election will be an automated poll that will utilize Smartmatic machines.

However, some Filipinos currently have confusion about the accuracy of the Smartmatic machines following the claim of Senator Imee Marcos of an alleged serious breach. Both the Comelec and Smartmatic denied it. Former Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon spoke on the accuracy of the voting machines.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, former Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon expressed his confidence that the Smartmatic machines will be accurate. She stressed that every voting machine is going to be tested.

Furthermore, Guanzon cited that the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting had an audit of the previous election returns and the accuracy of the machines is 99.8%. According to the former Comelec Commissioner, even the poll body had its “random manual audit” of the election returns so it is found from the ground that the machines are “accurate”.

Rowena Guanzon said that Smartmatic is motivated to keep the elections clean in the pursuit of protecting its reputation. She stressed that Smartmatic is a worldwide business and it will not risk its business as failing may taint its international reputation and affect the operation and image of the business.
