Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon Retires from Post

Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon retired from her post in the Commission on Elections ahead of the 2022 Elections.

Recently, the name of Commissioner Rowena Guanzon made rounds on social media after she made some revelations and claims over the consolidated cases seeking to disqualify former Senator Bongbong Marcos from the presidential race.

Three (3) consolidated petitions were raffled to Comelec First Division. a three (3)-member body where Guanzon is one of the commissioners handling the case. She previously revealed that the ponente or the one intended to write the decision is her fellow commissioner, Aimee Ferolino.

Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon accused Ferolino of allegedly delaying the decision so her vote will not be counted as she is set to retire. She revealed that she voted to disqualify former Sen. Bongbong Marcos from the presidential race in the Election 2022.

According to Guanzon, she believes that there is really moral turpitude in Marcos Jr.’s act of not filing his Income Tax Returns (ITR) not only once but several times. In a separate opinion she recently released, she stressed that he could not run for president.

Guanzon has given Ferolino until Monday to release a resolution – to which did not happen. She claimed that there is allegedly a political interference in why the decision is delayed.

Ahead of the Election 2022 and the release of the decision on the consolidated cases seeking to disqualify Marcos Jr. from the 2022 presidential race, Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon retired. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, a sendoff was conducted for Guanzon and two (2) other Comelec officials who also retired.

As for Comelec spokesman James Jimenez, he does not think there is a delay in the release of the verdict over the consolidated cases. Guanzon previously claimed that she and the other commissioners agreed to have it released by January 17 but Ferolino denied that there’s a deadline agreed on.
