LTFRB Reveals Decision on Proposed Increase of Minimum Fare

Transport Groups File Petition to LTFRB Calling for an Increase on Minimum Fare

LTFRB – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board revealed its decision on the proposed increase of the minimum fare.

A lot of jeepney drivers and as well as drivers of other public utility vehicles (PUVs) complain that they can hardly bring home an amount that can attend to the needs in their households because of the high prices of fuel. The oil prices have continuously increased since January.

According to the authorities, the series of oil price hikes is due to huge global demand. It was previously eyed that the spike in the prices of oil may continue until May or June. The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine is also eyed as another factor that can trigger the increase in oil prices.

Amid the oil price hike, several transport groups filed a petition to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) proposing for an increase in the jeepney minimum fare. Recently, the decision on the petition was released.

Following the denial of the petition seeking to increase the minimum fare in jeepneys, the minimum fare remains at Php 9.00. According to LTFRB, they have to balance the right of the commuters and as well as the operators.

Amid the oil price hike, fuel subsidies were released to public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers to help them cope with the high prices of fuel. Every beneficiary will receive a fuel subsidy worth Php 6,500.00. The national government is also planning of giving every poor household a Php 200.00 allowance per month.
