There will be more new Kapuso stars, GMA Executive said
GMA executive Lilybeth Rasonable, who is the Senior Vice President for the Entertainment Group of the Kapuso network, said that there are more celebrities who will become Kapuso this year.
Last year, big names in showbiz like Bea Alonzo, Kim Atienza, and Xian Lim, Pokwang, Richard Yap and Beauty Gonzalez signed a contract with GMA. They came from the rival Kapamilya network. Although A-list actor John Lloyd Cruz has no exclusive contract with GMA, he is currently doing a sitcom in the Kapuso network and there is an upcoming project for him while actress-dancer Maja Salvador is now part of Eat Bulaga.
Based on the article in Bandera, Rasonable confirmed that there will be more celebrities who will join the Kapuso network. “Yes. Pero hindi pa maa-announce, you will find out soon enough,” the GMA executive said.
When asked about the qualities they are looking for in a celebrity, she said that they want to see the star power and the huge followings that a certain celebrity has but they are also considering the excitement that he or she can give to the audience.
“Kahit up-and-coming na mga artists na makakadagdag sa excitement ng content sa GMA,” Rasonable added. She added that they are giving more focus now on Sparkle, the talent management arm of the Kapuso network, as they want to boost the careers of their homegrown talents.
“So aside from yung mga big names na maaaring lumipat sa GMA, meron din tayong bini-build-up on our own and will be creating platforms on them on television para i-watch sila,” the GMA executive said.
Aside from celebrities, there were directors and writers as well who transferred to GMA. Former ABS-CBN director Jerry Lopez Sineneng and screenwriter Ricky Lee are now part of the Kapuso network.
Rasonable said that this is part of their aim to expand. As GMA is producing more and more projects, the TV network needs more writers and directors.
