Did you know that Ferdinand Marcos Sr. was a ninong of Sharon Cuneta?
Former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. was one of the sponsors of Megastar Sharon Cuneta in her wedding with her ex-husband actor Gabby Concepcion.
Veteran entertainment writer Ed de Leon, the former publicist of Sharon revealed the conversation that happened between the late President and the actress’s father the late Pasay City Mayor Pablo Cuneta.
Based on the article in PEP, Ed de Leon shared that wedding of Sharon and Gabby was a surprise. Back in 1984, when the Megastar was rehearsing for her concert Sharon Cuneta with the Boys (Bagets boys), she suddenly disappeared and it was because she and Gabby already had their wedding.
“Hindi niya [judge] dinala sa civil registry ang documents, dinala niya kay Mayor Cuneta kaya nalaman nito. Wala kaming kaalam-alam,” the former publicist said. At that time, Sharon was already pregnant.
Then, Ed said that before the wedding Mayor Cuneta received a call from President Ferdinand Marcos. At that time, First Lady Imelda Marcos was abroad.
The publicist said that the late president said this to the father of Sharon, “‘O ikakasal pala si Sharon. Bakit hindi ako kinuhang ninong?”‘ Then, the former president presented himself to be the ninong of Sharon and Gabby.
“Sabi ni Mayor, ‘Ay, hindi ho ako nakialam diyan. Sila ang bahala. Sabihin mo ninong ako,’ ang sabi ni Presidente, na dumating talaga sa Manila Cathedral,” Ed de Leon related what Marcos Sr. said.
Meanwhile, when the former publicist was asked about the recent bashings against Sharon Cuneta and being tagged as “Negastar”, he said that during his time, this kind of negative publicity would have been handled.
“She’s working with another group which I am not a part,” the veteran writer said adding that Sharon should ask herself why criticisms are being thrown at her.
“Pero kung ako ang tatanungin mo, honestly, kung ano ang mga nangyayari ngayon kay Sharon, lahat mali. These are the things which we would not tolerate during our time. But that was our time, lalo na kung buhay pa si Boss Mina, hindi puwede ‘yan,”
Ed de Leon said. Back then, he said that they would already panic if this kind of situation happens and Sharon had no idea about the preservation that was happening behind her.
“Ang problema, kapag sumikat ka nang ganoon kasikat, mahirap kasi kapag nandoon ka sa peak mo, the only way is to go down. You cannot go any higher, nandoon ka na sa peak mo. Ang point is how to maintain yourself at the peak,” the former publicist of Sharon Cuneta said.
