EDGARDO M. REYES BIOGRAPHY – This is the life story of famous Filipino novelist Edgardo M. Reyes and some of his notable stories.

A famous novelist writer of the Philippines is Edgardo M. Reyes. He was born on September 20, 1936, and among the most prolific writers in the country. One of his first written stories was published in Liwayway and he is also one of the authors of Agos sa Disyerto anthology. The Agos sa Disyerto included Efren Abueg, Dominador Mirasol, Rogelio Ordoñez, Edgardo Reyes, and Rogelio Sikat.

He finished his high school at a school which is based in Manila called Bohol Central College. He then attended the University of the East taking up commerce but has two stop schooling after a couple of months.

Reyes was the youngest of his family and at the age of 14, he became his family’s big winner. He worked as a short story writer, novelist, magazine and newspaper editor, screenwriter, cartoonist, and radio commentator. He was also a film director and a university professor. He taught in the graduate school of the Ateneo de Manila University and the University of the Philippines. Reyes received awards from Palanca and FAMAS.

  • Hayop sa Porma, Hanep sa Ganda (2005), associate director
  • Bangkang Papel sa Dagat ng Apoy (1984), director
  • Solidaridad: Faith, Hope and Heaven (1989), director

With his remarkable contributions in Philippine literature, he was dubbed as “Haligi ng Kontemporaryong Panitikang Pilipino”. Reyes died on Mayo 15, 2012.
