ROGELIO ORDONEZ BIOGRAPHY – These are some of the things about multi-awarded author Ka Roger or Rogelio Ordonez.

Filipino fiction writer, poet, activist, journalist, and educator Rogelio Ordonez is multi-awarded in his field of career. He is also known as “Ka Roger” who has written a lot of works that molded the country’s literature. He was born in Alapan, Imus, Cavite.

Rogelio Ordonez Biography

Ordonez has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and studied at Mapua Institute of Technology and Manuel L. Quezon University. His writings mostly reflect the reality of life – the workers, the peasants, and the oppressed.

Despite having a degree in civil engineering, he focused on writing – something that he was truly passionate about. He wrote fictions like short stories in Liwayway, columns and editorials in Pilipino Free Press, and some articles for Asia-Philippines Leader. He also makes poems and essays. And as early as high school, he had a story published in Liwayway, his first story.

Apart from writing, he also molded people to become writers. He has a MA in Mass Communication which he took up at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.

  • Gawad Kadipan for “Dugo ni Juan Lazaro” (first prize)
  • Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas (National Achievement Award for Literature) bestowed by the Writers’ Union of the Philippines (UMPIL)
  • Progressive Caviteño in the field of Literature in 2009
  • Outstanding Imuseño in the field of Literature
  • Gawad Alejandro G. Abadilla for being a “creative writer and militant journalist”
  • Makata ng Bayan (People’s Poet) by KM64 Poetry Collective
  • Plaque of Distinction from the 107th Founding Anniversar pf PUP
  • Guro ng Bayan (People’s Teacher) during the 30th anniversary-celebration of ACT (Alliance of Concerned Teachers); and many others.

Ordonez died at the age of 75 last 2016.
