Surigao del Sur Hit by Earthquake with 3.1 Magnitude
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 3.1 magnitude quake in Surigao del Sur, March 9, 2022.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking was felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“. But the agency advises the people to wait for factual information and not to panic.
Recently, a quake has hit a part of Surigao del Sur, March 9, 2022. At 12:28 a.m., Hinatuan was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.1.
According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Surigao del Sur was located at 08.51°North, 126.88°East – 062 km North 75° East of Hinatuan with a depth of origin of 020 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are expected of the said quake and as well as aftershocks. As of this writing, no intensity was reportedly felt at the epicenter of the quake nor the nearby areas. No instrumental intensities were recorded as well.
