Presidential Bets Who Refuse To Join Comelec Debates To Face Consequence

Comelec invites all presidential bets to join the debates

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said that presidential bets, as well as vice-presidential bets, who will refuse to join the debate that it organizes, will face the consequence.

Based on the report from CNN Philippines, the PiliPinas 2022 Debates: The Turning Point aims to raise awareness among Filipino voters in order for them to have a well-thought decision, acting Comelec Chairman Socorro Inting said.

The presidential debate will be on March 19 from 7-9:30 p.m. and April 3 while the debate between the vice-presidential aspirants will be on March 20 from 7-9:30 p.m. also. For the town hall debates, voters can watch these on April 23 (vice president) and April 24 (president).

Spokesman James Jimenez said that presidential bets, as well as those who are running for vice president, who are still unsure or have not confirmed their attendance, will work to secure written consent this week.

The Comelec spokesperson also said that the debate topics are still being finalized. “We will ask those collaborating the questions to sign non-disclosure agreements to maintain the integrity of the debates,” Jimenez said.

Comelec also made known that a consequence is waiting for presidential bets and vice-presidential bets who will not join the debates organized by the commission. Debate absentees will not be given permission to air their content on the e-rally platform of Comelec which is where campaign platforms and videos are being aired for free on a rotational basis.

Previously, presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos and vice-presidential candidate Sara Duterte of UniTeam expressed that they are not certain yet whether they will join debates. To recall, the tandem also refused the debate organized by CNN Philippines.
