VP Leni Robredo debunked the accusations that she is using the Catholic Church for campaign
Vice President Leni Robredo reacted to the accusations that she and her team are using the Catholic Church for their aim to win in the 2022 elections.
Previously, Robredo’s running mate, Senator Kiko Pangilinan also slammed this accusation. The accusations came from the fact that several Catholic priest and leaders have aired their support for the Leni-Kiko tandem despite the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines or CBCP’s stand that they should be “nonpartisan”.
Based on the article in The Philippine Star, VP Leni Robredo also denied that they are using the Catholic Church for their campaign. “I think that’s an insult to the Church,” she said.
She also said that the Church will never let this happen. “The Church is a stronger institution than us politicians and it will never allow itself to be used just because of their inclination for a politician,” she said.
The Vice President also said that she thinks that the Church knows that the coming elections are crucial which is why it is taking part. “It’s not just about siding with a politician, but the morality of our nation is what’s at stake here,” Robredo added.
The presidential aspirant also stressed that she is asking the Church’s help to fight “disinformation”. In her fight to fight “falsehood”, VP Leni Robredo said that this is also open to other sectors and not just exclusive to the Church.
“Even if their candidate is different, our problem is the same if false propaganda becomes the reason why our elections would lose integrity,” she said.
Based on the report, although CBCP is not endorsing any candidate, it warned the public against historical revisionism, particularly what happened during the martial rule of Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
