Catholic Leaders Express Support to Leni Robredo, Kiko Pangilinan’s Bids

Catholic Leaders Back Candidacies of Vice Pres. Leni Robredo, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan

CATHOLIC LEADERS – Hundreds of the members of the Catholic Church expressed their support to the candidacies of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan.

The May 2022 Election is fast approaching and a lot of private individuals, political parties, organizations, and institutions have already expressed their support to certain candidates. Both local and national elections will be held on May 9.

The campaign period has started. Proclamation rallies of the different presidential candidates were held in different areas across the nation last February 8. The supporters of some candidates also hosted activities to help campaign for their bets.

With regards to the Catholic Church, it does not endorse candidates as an institution but some Catholic leaders have separately pledged their support to Vice Pres. Leni Robredo and Sen. Kiko Pangilinan.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, hundreds of Catholic leaders including 569 priests, deacons, and religious brothers and sisters from the different archdiocese, congregations, and dioceses signed the declaration pledging their support to Vice Pres. Leni Robredo and Sen. Kiko Pangilinan.

The declaration stressed that Robredo and Pangilinan both have the “moral ascendancy and aptitude” to be the next leaders of the country. Pari Madre Misyonero Para Kay Leni also stressed that a leader must have shown moral integrity, right conduct, virtue, fear of the Lord, and must possess a record not tarnished with corruption.

Furthermore, the declaration stated that a leader must demonstrate maturity, intelligence, and the ability to lead the country and face “large-scale” problems. Based on the report, it also highlighted the respect for patriotism and basic human rights. One of those who signed the declaration is De La Salle Brothers’ Bro. Armin Luistro.

The Council of the Laity of the Philippines also endorses the presidential bid of Vice Pres. Robredo. They tagged her as the “most capable candidate for the presidency”.
