Around 20 OFWs in Hong Kong Loses Job after Getting Sick of COVID-19
OFWS – Some overseas Filipino workers in Hong Kong were fired from their jobs after they contracted COVID-19.
The COVID-19 pandemic is greatly affecting several nations across the globe for more than two (2) years now. Many healthcare systems suffered from the pandemic to the point of collapsing amid the surge of cases. The educational fields and the economies of several countries were also greatly affected.
Amid the pandemic, several overseas Filipino workers were not able to go home to their families for a few years now. There are also those who went home and can hardly find a job back abroad due to the ongoing unstable situations in many countries.
Many OFWs in different countries abroad also got infected with COVID-19 amid the pandemic. Unfortunately, based on a report on ABS-CBN, some of them lost their jobs after they got sick of the virus.
According to the report, around 20 OFWs in Hong Kong lost their jobs after they got infected with COVID-19. One of them is a Pinay OFW named Rachelle Famillaran. According to her, her employer locked her inside a room after she tested positive for COVID-19 and she was not given food, water, and medicine for a day.
Rachelle was emotional as she recalled her experience. The OFW shared that after she was locked and not given food and water for a day, she was told to pack all her things and not to touch anything in the house prior to the arrival of the ambulance that will fetch her. She was not admitted to the hospital and was only given medicines and was told to go home.
However, reportedly, Rachelle’s employer does not want to accept her anymore so the OFW had no choice but to stay for three (3) days along the hospital corridors. She had to eat less to maximize her food and water as she waits for the service that will take her to the isolation facility.
Reportedly, the Philippine authorities are planning to put the employers who will be proven to have terminated the OFWs who got infected with COVID-19 from their jobs on a black list.
