Julius Babao answered this question about his decision to leave ABS-CBN
Seasoned journalist Julius Babao was asked if the reason for his network transfer to TV5 involved financial matters.
For 28 years, Julius has spent his professional life in ABS-CBN. However, many were surprised when he bid goodbye from his news program in the Kapamilya network.
With this, although the network and his colleagues showed support for his decision, negative issues still surfaced. One of these criticisms that are being thrown at Julius because of his network transfer was the monetary reason.
Based on the article in PEP, Julius Babao denied that the talent fee was something that he considered. “Hindi siya factor at all. It’s really about yung growth ko as a news anchor,” he said.
He stressed that it was more on the opportunity to do other projects than what he has been doing in his former network. “Yun actually. It’s not about money! It’s not about an issue of money. It’s really about yung growth ko as a news personality, as a person,” Julius reiterated.
The seasoned journalist also admitted that it was difficult for him to leave his home network for almost three decades. It was specifically painful for him when his program Mission: Possible was canceled when the franchise of ABS-CBN was not granted.
Julius said that there was “panghihinayang” as his program aimed to help as many people as possible but he can do nothing about it. “Yun talaga ang pangunahing reason kung bakit may kurot sa puso, na kumbaga, na umalis ako sa Kapamilya—aside sa mga na-establish ko nang mga kaibigan doon, mga minahal kong mga kaibigan na parang mga naging kamag-anak ko na rin. Iyon, yung mga shows na ganun,” he shared.
In a previous article, Julius Babao also clarified that his wife Christine Babao, who is now in the sister company of TV5, influenced his decision. He said that the process of his network transfer took time and it was not just done overnight.
