Comelec Warns Public vs Fake Poll Commissioners on Social Media

Comelec Denounce Fake Poll Commissioners on Social Media

The Commission on Election (Comelec) has warned the public against the fake poll commissioners on social media platforms.

The Comelec has issued a warning to the public about people impersonating as poll commissioners or authorities on social media. James Jimenez, a Comelec spokesperson, also encouraged people to report Facebook friend requests from those posing as Comelec commissioners or employees.

“These blatant attempts to steal the online identity of Comelec officials are potentially part of a broader attempt to undermine the integrity of the elections,” said Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez.

He said that his agency is also dealing with social media networks to delete impersonating people as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon has stated that she voted to have Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. disqualified from the next elections.

Guanzon is a member of the Comelec’s First Division, which deals with complaints of disqualification brought against Marcos Jr., who is running for president in the May elections. Commissioners Aimee Ferolino-Ampoloquio and Marlon Casquejo, in addition to Guanzon, are members of the First Division.

Guanzon revealed in another interview with CNN Philippines on Thursday night that Ferolino-Ampoloquio is the case’s ponente. The person entrusted with writing a case or petitioning a ruling is referred to as a ponente. Guanzon stated that she has voted since January 17th.
