BFP Declres Starmall Alabang Fire Out after More than 30 Hours Since Incident Started

STARMALL ALABANG FIRE – The fire incident in a shopping mall in Muntinlupa was declared “fire out” after more than 30 hours.

A fire incident is one of the risky happenings that can leave not just damages to properties but as well as loss of lives. Even the lives of the people who will be responding to the incident, the firemen, will be p[ut at risk as they move to put it out.

Last weekend, a four-storey mall in Alabang in Muntinlupa, the Starmall, was caught in the said incident. It started at 3:00 a.m. on January 8, 2022. The incident reached the first alarm after around an hour since the blaze started.

The blazing continued. At 4:49 a.m. on January 8, 2022, the fire reached the 4th alarm. It reached Task Force Alpha which comes after the 5th alarm by 7:46 a.m. It required the usage of multiple firetrucks to put out the fire. The incident was visible at the Skyway and the South Luzon Expressway.

Initial reports stated that the Starmall Alabang fire started on the 2nd floor of the building and it reached the All Homes Department on the ground floor. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Muntinlupa investigated the incident.

The Starmall Alabang fire continued for more than a day. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the authorities declared “fire out” after more than 30 hours – at 2:21 p.m. of January 9, 2022. Five (5) responders were injured by the incident and they are the following:

  • SFO2 Joel Silin
  • FO2 Delfin Tanggana
  • FO2 Leonardo Oraye
  • Volunteer Arthur San Benito

According to the report, the BFP estimates that the Starmall Alabang fire left P100 million worth of damages and the incident started in the lower ground level of the building. Supt. Roberto Samillano Jr. said that the fire spread to almost 70% of the shopping mall.

The fire reached the Department Store of the mall and as well as the grocery. He stressed that the stocks inside the mall were caught by fire which is why it took more than a day to put the fire out.
