Pres. Duterte Speaks on Hotels Used by Government for Quarantine
DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte ordered the deployment of police in hotels utilized by the government for quarantine.
The Philippines has once again tightened its restrictions in the pursuit to stop the spike in the COVID-19 cases in the country. The whole Metro Manila is back under Alert Level 3 after a spike in the cases in several cities in the capital region.
Under the Alert Level 3 implementation, curfew is back in several cities and Metro Manila Mayors also agreed to limit the movements of people who have yet to be vaccinated against the virus. The capital region is under Alert Level 3 until January 15, 2022.
With regards to the arrivals in the Philippines from abroad, quarantine is required upon arrival. The government is utilizing some hotels for the said purpose.
Based on a recent report on ABS-CBN News, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte ordered the deployment of police authorities in hotels used by the government for quarantine. The decision came after there were reports of some individuals evading their quarantine.
According to Pres. Duterte, the personnel of the hotels cannot be doing the work of the cops for the government and stop the people from not complying with their quarantine requirements. He stressed that only the personnel put by the government in the hotel can stop the individuals who are planning to cut short their quarantine.
The 76-year-old President then asked Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año if it is possible to deploy two (2) policemen for two (2) shifts in a quarantine hotel to do the job. To it, the Interior Secretary answered in the affirmative.
According to Interior Secretary Año, he has already talked with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the police authorities are already preparing for deployment in quarantine hotels.
