173 Fireworks-Related Injuries Have Been Recorded by DOH as of January 4
The Department of Health has recorded a total of 173 fireworks-related injuries after six firecracker-related injuries have been added.
On Tuesday (January 4, 2022), the Health Department reported that six additional firecracker-related injuries have been recorded. The additional number of casualties bring the total to 173.
DOH reported that the casualties were 41% higher compared to the 123 cases on the same day from December 2020 to January 2021. However, it is 58% lower compared to the average of 410 cases over the last five years.
The agency reported that the 39% of the total casualties have been recorded in Metro Manila. 27 injuries were recorded from Region I, 24 in Region VI, 13 in Region III, seven each from Calabarzon and Region V.
There are six each from BARMM and Region VII, five in Region II and Region XII, three in CAR, two in Region XI and one in Region IX.
Out of the 173 victims, 155 of them were males and 80 of them were firecracker users. 114 victims suffered from blast or burn injuries, which did not require amputation but 18 others requires amputation.
The department explained that the firecracker-related accidents happened at home. Most casualties were injured from kwitis, boga, luces, 5-star and unknown firecrackers.
Boga and 5-star are already prohibited. No firework ingestions have been recorded. one stray bullet injury has been recorded last New Year’s Eve in Muntinlupa City. The 23-year-old male was struck while taking photographs.
