President Duterte Appeals to Typhoon Victims to Use Their Financial Aid Wisely
President Rodrigo Duterte appealed to the recent victims of typhoon to use their financial aid wisely and not to use them on bad habits.
During a recent visit to Siargao Island, which was devastated by Typhoon Odette, Duterte warned the victims not to gamble or drink with the financial assistance they will receive. President Duterte declared that relief would arrive for the victims of the typhoon in Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte, but that it would not arrive until Friday, December 24.
“I will tell them to fast-track it. I’ve saved up a — all affected areas in the Visayas will receive money. If not Thursday, you’ll get it by Friday. We just need to download it and sign some papers in the bank,” he said.

He did warn them, though, that if they were caught drinking or gambling, he would beat them. According to him, if gamblers and drinkers are detected using the financial aid granted to them, police officers will be ordered to beat them.
“In all honesty, to the single men here, when you receive the financial aid, don’t ever use it to buy alcoholic beverages. I won’t allow it. Even the police, if I find out that they didn’t hand in their salary to their family, I’ll beat them up. I will really punch them,” he warned.
“To those who don’t care, you may just use the money to gamble. And when you run out of money, you get hungry. I’ll make the typhoon come back for you then,” he added.
He allegedly withdrew aid funding for various government projects to be provided to the bereaved right away. He stated that the monies are for individuals, not infrastructure and that each person might receive P40,000.
“This is for the people, not for infrastructures. Maybe you’ll get P50,000 each. Ah, and you believed that so easily? OK then, maybe P40,000, is that okay?” he said.
