State of Calamity Declared in Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental due to Odette

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, NEGROS ORIENTAL – The two (2) provinces are currently under the State of Calamity due to Typhoon Odette.

Prior to Typhoon Odette entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), massive preparations were done as the forecast showed that it is the strongest typhoon to hit the country this year. Internationally, the typhoon was named Rai.

Preemptive evacuations were done in flood-prone areas. Work cancellations also took place in several cities for the safety of the people.

Typhoon Odette has its own strength that left marks in the Philippines. It brought heavy rain and strong winds. Deaths and damages were recorded due to the said typhoon.

Many people lost their homes amid the onslaught of Typhoon Odette. Some houses were damaged by flood while most were destroyed by the strong winds. Some houses were hit by falling trees.

Among the provinces that were hit by Typhoon Odette are Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental. It brought massive flooding in several cities including Kabankalan City and Sipalay City.

Currently, there are still areas submerged in floodwater. Kabankalan still has no electricity supply and massive clearing operations are needed. The same scenario is existent in Sipalay City.

In Negros Oriental, several families lost their homes after it was destroyed by the strong winds and the falling trees. Some families are temporarily sleeping beside the streets.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, State of Calamity was declared in Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental. Several politicians have visited the provinces to extend help to the victims of the typhoon. Many are staying in evacuation centers now.
