ABS-CBN Reopening Under Marcos Presidency, Imee Says ‘No Problem’ But…

Imee Marcos is fine with the reopening of ABS-CBN

Senator Imee Marcos said that there is “no problem” in the reopening of ABS-CBN if his brother presidential aspirant Bongbong Marcos will win in the 2022 elections.

The Kapamilya network during the time of Eugenio Lopez Sr. was ordered to close. That was in 1972 after the late former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. declared martial law.

The media company returned to operation in 1986 several months after the People Power Revolution. However, last year, the Kapamilya network was forced to shut down once again as its franchise renewal application was denied.

Based on the report from Inquirer, Sen. Imee Marcos said that ABS-CBN can have its franchise again if ever her brother Bongbong Marcos will win the presidential race. However, she said that this will happen if all the issues against the media giant are resolved.

To my mind ABS, under the new construct defined by law and all the problems that have been already revealed, once it solves all that, para sa akin walang problemang buksan yan, first 100 days para makita natin,’ the Senator said.

Then, Sen. Imee recalled that time when she was serving as Governor of Ilocos Norte. She shared that at that time she had the chance to work with a member of the Lopez family and that she did not encounter any problem.

Back in January last year, based on the report, Imee Marcos said that she keeps an open mind when it comes to the proposal of extending the franchise of ABS-CBN. This is despite the fact that there was a turbulent history between the two camps.

Meanwhile, in a recent statement of Vice President Leni Robredo, she said that when they visited the areas badly hit by typhoon Odette, people expressed the importance of having the regional stations of the Kapamilya network that could report the situation in provinces.
