Norway Records another Surge in COVID-19 Cases due to Omicron
NORWAY – The government and the health authorities are tightening the restrictions amid the spike of the cases of Omicron variant.
Countries now are boosting their walls against the Omicron variant of COVID-19. This newly-detected variant of the virus was reported to be “heavily mutated” thus nations were advised by the World Health Organization (WHO) to prevent its entry and spread.
First recorded in South Africa, Omicron was detected in at least 17 countries across the globe now. Several nations are implementing travel restrictions on travelers from countries that recorded cases of the variant of concern.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Norway is one those nations that is experiencing a surge in their COVID-19 cases now due to the Omicron variant. It is tightening its restrictions against in pursuit to manage the spread of the virus.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store gave a warning of a “serious” situation over the possibility that the Delta and Omicron variants will make a “total saturation of the health system”. These two (2) are both variants of concern.
Based on the report, the health authority said that if measures won’t be implemented, Norway may face between 90,000 to 300,000 daily COVID-19 cases and up to 200 daily hospital admissions. The measures implemented include the shortening of the gap on the 3rd and 4th vaccine shots of the health workers and the individuals above 45 years old to four and a half months.
Also, the government and the health authorities set to start giving the booster shots by middle of January 2022. Remote working is also suggested if possible and the people are ordered to keep wearing face masks.
Furthermore, gyms and swimming pools access are not allowed and cancelling big sporting events are suggested. More updates may be posted soon.
