Why did Judy Ann Santos react “ouch” to the ‘Mara Clara’ remake?
Award-winning actress Judy Ann Santos admitted that she was hurt over the Mara Clara remake and here is the reason why she felt that way.
Juday (Mara) did the said series in 1992 with Gladys Reyes (Clara) and undoubtedly, it was a big hit. For five years, the viewers have seen the growth of their characters and they have grown from being kids to young ladies before the public’s eyes.
Even though it has already ended, the memories of that series still linger in the hearts and minds of many fans. In 2010, ABS-CBN decided to do a remake of this iconic series featuring Kathryn Bernardo (Mara) and Julia Montes (Clara).
During a recent interview by PEP, Judy Ann Santos and Gladys Reyes were asked about their reaction when they were told to turn over their characters to Kathryn and Julia.
Juday honestly admitted that she was a bit hurt. While sharing her true feelings towards this, Gladys was laughing as she said that she already knew what her Mara Clara co-star would say.
“Na-happy na din kami towards the end noong ipapalabas na siya pero noong simula meron kaming push and pull ni Gladys,” Juday said. It is because Mara Clara was their life.
Juday also said that they know how the series started and they were the ones who made Mara and Clara survive. “Trinabaho namin si Mara at si Clara, so para i-turn over siya regardless kahit sino ha, kahit sino gumanap noon, it would still be the same feeling,” Judy Ann Santos stressed.
She also shared that when she and Gladys met for the said turnover, there was “pisilan ng kamay”. For them, it was a bitter-sweet feeling because it was like saying goodbye to their past and turning it over to the new generation. On the other hand, Gladys said that she and Juday will always be the original Mara and Clara.
