Will Mayor Isko Moreno allow ICC Investigation if he wins president in 2022?
ISKO MORENO – The presidential aspirant and Manila City Mayor revealed his stand on the investigation of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Philippines.
One of the national issues that some presidential aspirants in the Election 2022 have spoken about is the probe of the ICC in the Philippines. The international body wants to conduct an investigation in the country regarding the deaths that are linked to the anti-drug campaign of the Duterte administration.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte previously expressed that he takes responsibility for his administration’s campaign against illegal drugs. According to the 76-year-old President, he is willing to go to jail but under the sentence of a Philippine court.
Reportedly, the Philippines asked for a delay in the investigation by the ICC. The international body said that the country must submit information regarding its request. Recently, another presidential aspirant, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, revealed his stand on the ICC investigation in PH.
Mayor Isko was initially accused as an extension or secret candidate of the Duterte administration. It is amid the tirades of the 76-year-old President to the Manila Mayor regarding his previous job as an actor in showbiz.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Manila Mayor stressed that he is not clearly the candidate of the President in the next election as his party has their own bet. Meanwhile, according to him, he is thankful if the Chief Executive would campaign for him. He admitted that he needs all the support he can get saying that he did not come from a big family in politics and he does not have enough resources compared with other presidential bets.
With regards to the ICC investigation in PH, Mayor Isko Moreno stressed that he will allow it if he wins president in 2022.
