Delegates from Thailand and South Africa for Miss Universe 2021 face controversies.
MISS UNIVERSE 2021 – Thailand and South Africa for the 70th Miss Universe pageant both face controversies and here’s what it’s all about.
Miss Universe Thailand Anchilee Scott-Kemmis and Miss Universe South Africa Lalela Mswane are among the strong contenders for this year’s Miss Universe pageant. This year will be the 70th edition of the pageant which will be held at Eilat, Israel on December 12 (December 13 in the Philippines).

But as the pageant approaches near, two of the candidates face controversies.
Miss Universe Thailand Anchilee Scott-Kemmis
Thailand’s royalist Sonthiya Sawasdee is bound to file a complaint against Scott-Kemmis for violating their country’s 1979 Flag Act. Accordingly, what she did to their flag in a photo was a form of profanity and disrespect. In the photo, it can be seen that she’s stepping on the red, white, and blue stripes – the colors that represent their flag. The pictorial actually has a theme called “Tricolor of Unity. Three Colors and One Real Body”.
It was a clear digitally edited background. Also, what she is wearing in the photo is a bit revealing and this is one of the complaints of the royalist. Such an outfit was accordingly an insult. Section 11 of the 1979 Flag Act of Thailand, those who are proven guilty of the offense will have to pay Thai Baht 4,000 or Php 6,120.00 approximately.
Miss Universe South Africa Lalela Mswane
Mswane faces a bit harder issue because the South African government will not be supporting her in her journey. This is because of some alliance issues. South Africa, her country, is tied with Palestine. The organization denied the plea of the government for the candidate to back out to show support for the Palestinians. Israel and Palestine are in a haywire situation due to a history of crimes and violence of Israel to Palestine people.
