Political Analyst Says Duterte Admin’s Push For Bong Go Presidential Candidacy “Defies Political Logic”

BONG GO PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDACY – Is President Duterte’s stronghold within Malacañang crumbling down to BBM?

Recently, political analysts banded together and discussed the issues surrounding PDP-Laban and the tandem of Bongbong Marcos and Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Following Sara’s VP announcement, Duterte urged his long-time aid, Senator Bong Go, to run for the highest seat in the Philippines. However, previous allies of Duterte had seemingly turned their backs against Go.

Among these was retired Army Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade Jr. According to Parlade, Go was controlling Duterte behind the scenes. But Duterte profusely denied these allegations.

Meanwhile, political experts believe that Duterte’s move to promote Go was “Sablay”. Furthermore, they explained that Duterte’s hold on his allies was crumbling simply due to self-interest.

According to Atty. Michael Yusingco, Go running for President “defies political logic”. Yusingco said that the admin should’ve “consolidated the admin force [instead of breaking] it up“.

Additionally, Professor Temy Rivera said Duterte’s distrust with the Marcoses became apparent after he was promoted go and filed a certificate of candidacy to run for Senator.

Rivera said Duterte may be spooked with all the potential legal suites that he would face once he steps down as President. As such, he wanted to secure a spot in the Senate in case someone he doesn’t trust wins the presidential election.

With Marcos and Go both running for President, some say Go has a high chance of bringing back Duterte supporters that went to Marcos. Currently, Duterte himself said that he is promoting her daughter Sara’s VP candidacy and Go’s presidential candidacy.
