Pres. Duterte Defends Sen. Bong Go from Accusations
DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte defended Senator Bong Go from accusations that he is controlling the Chief Executive.
Several substitutions for the Election 2022 took place in the Philippine political arena before November 15, 2021 passed. With regards to the bets of the ruling party PDP-Laban, Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go withdrew his candidacy for vice president.
The Senator withdrew his candidacy upon confirmation that presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte will run for vice president in 2022. According to the President, the Senator was crying and he suggested him to take the presidential race since the position is open.
Sen. Bong Go filed his candidacy for president in 2022. Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is vocal that his support in the next election goes to the Senator.
Just a few hours after Sen. Bong Go was confirmed to be running for president in 2022, retire lieutenant general Antonio Parlade accused the Senator of controlling Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. The 76-year-old Chief Executive was quick to defend his long-time aide.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the President stressed that Sen. Go is the chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography that is why he needs him during his weekly meeting with his cabinet members. The Chief Executive clarified that the Senator is not controlling anyone and he is just fulfilling his duties.
“He does not control anybody, he does not control me. He is here to do his duty na may matanungan tayo kaagad,” the President said based on the report.
Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana was also surprised by the accusations of retired Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade Jr. saying that there is no basis for the accusations of the former General against the Senator. According to him, he called Parlade and asked questions about his move. The retired lieutenant General soon changed stand and said that he was not criticizing the Senator.
